IV International Mini-Conference "Antimicrobial peptides as prototypes of novel antibiotics"

Dear colleagues!

We invite you to take part in a  mini-conference with

international participation "Antimicrobial peptides as prototypes of novel antibiotics", which will take place on July 18-19, 2024 (in person and remotely).

The event is held within the framework of the activities of the World-Class Research Centre for Personalized Medicine (Agreement No. 075−15−2022−302 dated 04/20/2022)

The Mini-conference is dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Date and  place of the event: 18−19 July 2024, 11:00 Moscow time,
FSBSI "IEM", St. Petersburg, Kamennoostrovsky Ave.,  71,
Conference hall. The link to join will be sent 1 hour before the start of the event.

The rapidly growing bacterial resistance to conventional antibiotics, the spread of new viral infections, the increased incidence of immunodeficiency conditions of various etiologies cause the necessity to search for novel potent anti-infective and immunomodulatory agents. Candidates for the role of such compounds include antimicrobial peptides of innate immunity.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) of innate immunity are multifunctional molecules with a unique mechanism of antibacterial action; possessing antiviral activity, as well as participating in the implementation of a wide range of protective reactions, exhibiting antitumor activity, immunomodulatory, neuroprotective properties and a number of other types of biological activity. The following issues will be discussed at the Mini-conference:

  • Prospects for the development of antimicrobial drugs based on AMPs for use in the treatment of infections associated with the provision of medical care;
  • A variety of structural classes of AMPs and the range of their biological properties;
  • Effects of the combined action of AMPs with other antimicrobial agents (conventional antibiotics, antiseptics, nanomaterials);
  • Ways to obtain new structures of natural peptides with properties optimized for practical use;
  • Antitumor effects of AMPs;
  • Interaction of AMPs with the complement system;
  • Answers to great challenges: ways to prevent and treat bacterial and viral infections.

The conference will discuss plans for joint research to study antimicrobial peptides as prototypes of new drugs to combat antibiotic-resistant bacteria, as well as other relevant drugs (antitumor, immunomodulatory, complement system inhibitors, etc.).

We invite everyone who is interested in scientific problems related to antimicrobial peptides to participate in the Mini-conference.

The mini-conference is held with international participation, so presentations are made in English. Oral and poster presentations - in English. It is possible to participate in the conference as a listener.

Participation in the conference is free.

Participants will be provided with certificates and a Book of abstracts will be published (in English). Abstracts are accepted (only in English) until July 17.
